]]> Since the day we opened in 1973, a daily hot nutritious meal has been a mainstay of the center.  Prepared by our kitchen staff – and by volunteers on  Saturdays – meals consist of a healthy and delicious main course, plus a salad, beverage, side vegetables and dessert.  On many days, more than 200 people have packed our dining rooms to enjoy the food, fun and fellowship.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have continued the meal service uninterrupted – for two years they were served just three days a week, carryout only – but now members and friends can come to St. Pat five days a week from 11:30 AM to 1 PM and enjoy their meals in the dining room.

]]> This is how we do it at St. Pat!! On Wednesday, Aug 31, we were informed that two nearby senior residences were without power – and that meals were needed for the 120 residents at the two places. With no notice at all, kitchen chief Temika Wallace and the staff managed to prepare all the meals – in addition to the lunches they were making for the St. Pat regulars. Pictured with Temika (second from left) are Sebastien, Marlin, Carmen and Ron – the people who made it happen! The meals were then delivered in fast order by St Pat’s Reggie Brown. And if all this wasn’t enough, they all did the same thing again the next day!

]]> After nearly two and a half years, St. Pat will reopen for lunch five days a week starting July 25 – plus the third and fourth Saturdays of the month, with volunteers prepping and serving.  Meals will be served in carryout containers, and can be enjoyed either in the dining room or outside in the park.  Most other activities and classes have also moved inside.

St Pat recommends that those coming indoors be fully vaccinated and follow standard Covid protocols including masks and social distancing.  We reserve the option of modifying services  based on the current health situation.

Over the past two years, as St. Pat has pivoted to continue serving the people who depend on us, we launched some alternate delivery and distribution programs.  These services were essential for people who were homebound due to the pandemic, and even as the situation improves some of the services will remain.

In addition to the carryout lunch service three days a week, St. Pat also offers:

  • Grocery shopping and delivery directly to homes, thanks to our sponsors 
  • Packaging and delivery of hygiene and other personal items – including “activities” kits to help homebound people exercise their minds and stay occupied
  • On site distribution of free vegetables, fruits and other foods – all provided by a number of organizations 

 

Members receive vegetable boxes along with carryout lunches outside the center.

]]> Our great kitchen staff prepares the meals every weekday – and on the weekends we’ve always relied on the generosity of volunteer groups.  In most cases they buy the food, bring it down, prepare it and serve it to our appreciative members.

Many local churches and other organizations have sponsored weekend meals over the years – including St. Ambrose, Our Lady of Sorrows, St Irenaeus, St. Claire, and Redeemer Lutheran churches, and the Notre Dame Club

We suspended indoor meals at the start of the pandemic – including Saturday meals.  Currently, our longtime supporters The Korean Group – pictured at left – are coming in on the third Saturday of the month to prepare and serve delicious carryout meals.

We hope to resume indoor dining soon, including every Saturday – when we’ll be relying once again on our volunteers.
