Community Health Worker Training

These nationally-certified positions help connect people needing health and social services with those who provide them – including outreach, maternity support, education, advocacy and informal counseling.  Training is provided virtually by the Wayne State University Community Health Worker Academy.

Positions are employed part-time at insurance companies, health systems, pharmacy chains and non-profits for $17 to $22 per hour.

To participate in this program, you must be age 55 or over, a resident of Detroit or Highland Park, and possess a high school diploma. You may take part in just one of the Cohort sessions.  If you’re interested, submit the information requested HERE and we will follow up with the formal application process and any related events.

Previous Sessions

Cohort #1:  Training Session.  Comprehensive online class conducted Tuesdays and Thursdays, for 12 weeks in August, September and October. Final presentations were Monday, November 3 and Thursday, November 6.  Graduation was on Thursday, November 6.
