Big Weekend for Detroit Irish

Detroit’s Irish community has supported St. Pats from the very start – and March 11-13 is its biggest weekend of the year.

It starts with the Painting of the Shamocks on Friday, a ceremony that officially kicks off the weekend.  In the picture, St. Pat Executive Director SaTrice Coleman-Betts is shown taking part in the event

Then comes Sunday – with the Corktown Races, presented by the Fraternal Order of United Irishmen, our long-time supporters, who contribute some of the proceeds to St. Pat.  The picture shows just a few of the thousands who braved the cold to participate.

Following the races is the annual St. Patrick Parade – a tradition since the 1950s.  The FOUIs are shown marching down Michigan Ave, followed by the St. Pat bus.
